Ok, dilemma time. Thinking about what to do with the wifes XKR, late 2012 in white. Problem is she still loves it, hardly drives it though and its sitting with just over 20k. Thinking of selling to move her into an F-Type, just noted though that the depreciation on her car has been tiny, bought it ex-demo 3 years ago for 50k, was a factory car with every extra including the black pack, delimited and sports seats and having looked the same car is in the dealer at 46k today.

So would it be wise to move on to the F-type or just keep the car as it looks like values are going to hold and if I do move will the F-Type return the same tiny levels of deprecation.

From what I've seen and looked at recently I think the F type is still depreciating and has a little way to go before it levels out. I've driven both the XKR and the F type recently both are IMHO sublime, the dynamic mode on the F type was music to my ears, memories of TVR ownership. The XKR is pure comfort and luxury in fact I'm that impressed I bought a 5.0 ltr convertible, and pick it up next Friday.

I was humming and haring, really wanted a V8 and that pushed the F Type just outside my price band.

Both great cars. Agree the f type reminds me as well of the good points of tvr ownership. Also really enjoy the positive response it gets from people at the petrol station etc Really like the v8 for the full on experience at legal speeds. Had the v6 first which I found better balanced but (a lot ) less exciting. Happy decision you have - no bad answer😊

Congrats Big Al. You will love it.

XKR / F-Type? Problem is, you've got the itch and that itch will need to be scratched. smile

Both great cars. Both are head turners.

Good luck

Will be interesting to hear what they offer you for trade in on the XKR. I suspect it may be nearer to 30K but good luck!

I keep flitting with a similar idea too. Got a 2013 xkr rag top with all the options, every time I think "yeah have a look at the f-type" I take the top down and go for a drive and instantly ask myself why would I do it?!

The f-type has got a way to go yet before it becomes a stable price for a 2 to 3 year stint. Strangely enough though, for the first time in as long as I can remember I find myself thinking the v6 is the one to go for. I feel it would be the better overall package, then, I'd miss the v8 roar.

Im interested in the comments comparing the F Type with a TVR.I'm a Cerbera owner(V8) and bought a V6S FType Coupe.I had it for a year and did 8k miles in it,fantastic car but didn't have the heart & soul of the Cerbera,so sold the F-Type(depreciation !) and the Cerb will be coming out to play again next year. For anyone contemplating an F-Type....get a V8.

Thanks for the feedback guy, think I am going to stay with the current for the moment, just not enough reasons to shift out of the current car. If it aint broke don't fix it so to speak applies here I think

Good decision. The F-Type will be around for a few more years so plenty of time.

Sounds more like you want to move her out of her XKR, and move you into your F-type smile.

Both beautiful cars, the F-type will be produced for the next 10 years or so, so there will be plenty out there to choose from in the coming years. I think there's going to be some amazing deals out there now and in the future. They seem to be getting hit rather hard in depreciation.

I'd hang on to the XKR, such a classy car. Maybe get an F-type to keep it company.

I had an XKR and a V6S FTYPE

I sold the FTYPE after 12 months. It was always second choice for me.

I love the XKR.

Both great cars but the XKR suits me best.

I recently swapped my Aston V8V for an F Type V8S, I'd tried a V6 and it didn't do it for me. The V8 is epic, I cannot stop driving it, so my advice would be yes do it but get the big one. To me the V6 was embarrassing making all that noise but not really doing anything else, it was a non S version, so maybe that's better.

Probably the right move to keep with what you have - it is a really good car especially with low mileage. I got an Ftype SVR this summer for my 50th Birthday (generous wife!). Don't want to think about how much it has depreciated already - but still worth it - it's a great car and sounds unbelievable - how is it legal?. It will probably be a bargin in a couple of years!
