So I went with advice and got a 56 XKR about a year ago. Liking everything about it except it not being manual and able to be thrown around like my old MR-2; and one more thing.. the cigarette lighter...

I plug in one of those cig lighter USB charger jobbies to charge my phone and run my Tom Tom (the in-car is great but you can't beat live traffic). Of course I always forget to charge up the tom tom beforehand so I rely on stable power from the lighter socket. Of course this in turn means that on every single journey where I need it to tell me where I'm actually going, just as I get to that point the power trips out, tom tom shuts down and I keep having to pull over to shuffle the cig lighter USB charger and reboot the tom tom.

Anyone else have similar probs? Is it my cig lighter I need replaced or is there a good USB charger thing that works well with it?

Thanks!

Sounds like you have a defective socket, easy way to see would be to get a charger with an LED on it, if the LED keeps going out then it's the socket that's dodgy.

One of my Vans is the same and you have to wiggle the charger around until it "catches" again.

Could it be that you have a duff usb charger rather than a faulty cigarette lighter? Have a look on Amazon or eBay for a usb charger made by a reputable company such as ANKER or the likes.

Edit: et voila https://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-Charger-PowerIQ-Tec...

I asked this question when I bought my XKR

http://www.pistonheads.com/gassing/topic.asp?h=0&a...

I've just realised that I never updated the thread when I sorted the issue.
I'd been checking the wrong the fuse. There's one fuse down in the passenger footwell that works the auxiliary socket in the glove box and the fuse I needed to check was for the cigar lighter and was under the bonnet. Replaced that and then no more issues all my charger type gadgets work fine. Actually I can't remember whether I've ever tried the 120W laptop adaptor.

Another solution is to have a permanent wire, hard-wired in. I have on in my X350 -fitted in behind the dash so the main cable is out of the way and not hanging across the dash. The connection is permanent, so no loose connection. It cost me about £40 to have it done at an in car ent. specialist, but is probably pretty straightforward to do yourself.

Good luck,

David

Check your charger. I purchased one from each bay. Took it apart and it was badly made and only using one half of earth contacts.

Spend a little money on a decent charger from a local shop.
