High mileage XF diesels
Discussion
The engine is generally bullet-proof, though there are isolated cases of failures - mainly due to diesel entering the oil through the DPF clean-cycle - but no different to other diesels. The cam belt requires it's first change @ 105K - so check that. Other than that, they are heavy cars, so at that mileage the suspension bushes will be tired. Check for knocks and uneven tyre wear. The driver's seat can suffer a bit too. Try and get a Portfolio S - top trim level with lots of 'extras' that are standard, and the 275 engine (Vs the 240).

So still a good high mileage buy then??, any idea on the cost to replace the cambelt?.
Yes I would like the portfolio S, , but not so many around to choose from, we will see.
Thanks
Paul
Unsure, as I've never kept one that long. You might want to come and say hello on www.jaginfo.org and post some questions. Very helpful bunch, and also an amazing Sunday Club that will help keep costs down (not the cambelt though).Yes I would like the portfolio S, , but not so many around to choose from, we will see.
Thanks

My dealer printed out the full details of my 3.0D and I see the torque is given as 500Nm (370lb/ft) ie the boggo 240bhp. According to https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Jaguar_XF I have a TDV6 whilst the beefier one is an SDV6. How can you tell them apart, or is the SDV6 in the Portfolio model?
A few other things to check depending on the age of car are the intercoolers (they can split), the cam covers can crack, along with the inlet manifold. All these would flag up a failure code if they've happened. So if you buy privately, may be worth getting an inspection, or plug in a diagnostic computer. These failures seem to be few & far between, and more on the older cars.
