Today's quiz question - E Type
Discussion
Just heard this story. My brother inlaws father around this time last year sold his E type. I know little about these cars, however this was the spec.
4.2, series 1 coupe.
Body professionaly restored around ten years ago
Engine complete but not installed in the car due to requiring a rebuild.
Car had been stored in a heated garage since body rebuild
Colour ..... the same as the original show car (whatever that is). Metallic grey?
Matching numbers
Around 8 years ago and just before the engine was about to be sent off for rebuild, the car was pulled out the garage and the overhead garage door slid down and put a dent in the bonnet, car was pushed back in the garage and car left just parked up.
Today's quiz question is:
How much do you think he sold it for?

80,000 pounds ?....
Nope Just to add. The car was complete, i.e. all parts were present. Most of the interior had been re-commissioned if not all reinstalled, but everything was there too. I believe everything suspension wise had been replaced that required it and just the engine needed a rebuild, so the car didnt require too much more work/expenditure to be finished.

As a 4.2, rather than an early flat floor 3.8, the fully restored value won't be at the top end of E type values. Good condition drive away price perhaps around £100k. Works needed to the bonnet, sort the engine re-commission and put together, could cost several £10,000's. I'd come back to £50k, but that has already been 'rejected'.
I'll say £75k, but wouldn't pay that much, myself...
