1999 XJR valuation advice needed
Discussion
Dear all,
For the last 12 months a beautiful looking '99 xjr has been parked up close to my house. It has not moved in this time and has just been marked up for sale at £6,995 at 73k miles. I know nothing of the the car other than have coveted it since I first saw it.
I am sorely tempted to buy it but do not really know:
A) what to look for?
B) what to offer?
Advice gratefully received!
Cheers.

Half of that if its tidy is ridiculous, mine is a 98 X308 mint with all the bits done and has an agreed valuation at £7500 with 70k on it.
There is a great post here by Jaguar Steve, take a look at it. Very informative.

I think 7k is a lot becase its been stood for a year. These cars need to be used and a whole multitude of things could become apparent on start up. My mate changed the battery on his 2001 XKR recently and one of his door mirrors stopped working as well as the forward back on his passenger seat ! As I said I have an agreed vsluation with Flux and its had absolutely everything done on it. Thats at £7.5k
Start it, get a pen out, list what doesn't work show it to him and offer £4.5k if its very clean and the timing chains have been done. Maybe settle at £5k ?

This thread doesn't fill me full of hope for when i sell my XJR.
Does a long mot help with the sale (mine has just got tested in the last week)?
I think a long MOT helps sell any car.Does a long mot help with the sale (mine has just got tested in the last week)?
Don't sell it, or you may just buy it back like I did....
Why does the thread not fill you with hope ? What do you have and what do you think its worth ?
i have an 1999 XJR with 86k on the clock. The car was my Dad's but due to age, he passed it to a car dealer to sell on a sale or return basis. After 9 months, he had not heard anything and after speaking with the dealer, brought the car back home. Car had done around 1500 miles more, brakes were warpped etc and it looks like the dealer had been using it as his personal car with no real intention of selling it.
In order to help my dad out, I ended up buying the car from him (he needed the cash for home stuff) and fixing the car up myself via my work's garage. I think so far, its had a new bosch silver battery, performance discs and pads all around, lower suspension arm, bushes, full service, welding repairs on all of the standard rust spots to sort them out for good, electric antenna, coolent sensor, oil seals around the engine, spark plugs and a few extras that I am missing. Only thing that I know still needs sorting is the saggy headliner but a few calls around and I am struggling to find someone to undertake that work.
Car drives lovely now but I already have an X351 XJL so dont really have a need for both of them and even after taking the xjr around the nc500, dont really feel a need to keep the car but looking at the valuations on here, I can see quite a loss in my future if I do get rid of the car.

Here have been various DIY solutions to a sagging headlining but I have never found one that lasts, even with the "right" adhesive it is then the application. Its got to be done properly, I found the cheapest option was a new one from jagheadlinings.com and the windscreen out. And, it still wasnt cheap......but a great job and will, ast another 18 years at leastIn order to help my dad out, I ended up buying the car from him (he needed the cash for home stuff) and fixing the car up myself via my work's garage. Did you get anywhere with this ?
I think he's decided he could get a good example that hasn't been sat outside for a year for the same money, why take the risk......ToneyCaroney said:

.......and into an S3 Exige??
Well, as is normal for me, as soon as I have a few days off work I'm stricken with some sort of incapacitating bug so didn't make it to Bell and Colvill in the end so no nearer answering that one! Still, was recovered just in time to return to work...Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
