So I have seen them cheap and considering it as a run around, because it's a lot more interesting than a Fiesta, but is a high miler (100,000) £1,000 worth even looking at?

Yes, but you need to go in with your eyes open as there may be a reason why they are for sale. S Types and X types are old and not the cars most people think to buy. Read the buyers guides wink
I bought a £3K S Type 4.2, ran it for 3 years and about 50K miles, it averaged almost 30mpg and cost me a gearbox oil change, a new radiator, a valley pipe and some aircon issues. I sold it for £2k

On a diesel (and maybe petrol too) the cambelt change is due at 105K miles so make sure it's had that, as the cambelt service is c.£900.

I'm happy driving a 100K+ car but would want to spend more than £1K on it.

No cambelts to worry about on any Jag petrols, past or present smile

Regular, good quality oil changes and sympathetic driving should see them outlast the effective life of the car.

For a 1k Jag, you need to be underneath looking for structural rust, and also checking all electrical items work. Also things like brake pipes and radiators etc. Just the usual really.

X Type diesels don't have cambelts, they have chains.
