X308 Intermittent Electrical Power to the Boot
Discussion
I am hoping to glean some information from the great minds that frequent this forum.
My X308 XJR is in rude health as always, however i have realised that my "check rear lights" message on the dash is not telling me lies as i first thought. With the lights on and engine running one night i went to the boot to open it, and noticed my number plate lights were off. I then opened the boot and noticed the inside boot lights didn't come on. When moving the boot lid up and down the lights, both inside and number plate, then did come on and off intermittently together.
There is obviously some bad connection somewhere, but short of ripping out carpets i wanted to check with people on here first if there is a logical way to approach this problem that will involve as little dismantling as possible?
Thanks in advance.

Usually a break in the wiring harness which goes along one of the boot lid hinges (can't remember which side) under a plastic trim cover.
Pull the harness away and inspect each wire carefully - they are quite thin and sometimes appear ok but are broken inside. If you find which one, then splicing a piece in and soldering, then heat shrink sleeving should do the trick. The fact that both number plate and boot lights are affected would make me think it's the earth return wire at fault.
