So, I bought a 1989 XJ-S V12 convertible at auction. Drove it home, noted a few jobs that need doing, parked it in the garage.

Like an imbecile, I didn't put the battery on charge. The battery is in the boot. Dead battery, can't open the boot - and so the nightmare begins!

I've tried the cigarette lighter socket (seems to be dead, in every key position), can't open the boot no matter how much key jangling I do, and I can't see any jump points in the engine bay...no matter how hard I look. There are a couple of bolts protruding from the bulkhead but they aren't live.

Can anyone help? I'm tearing my hair out!

I have a 1995 XJS Coupe. Does your not have a boot lock into which you can put the key in. Turn key anticlockwise and press button and boot opens.

Thanks for your help - the american link I have seen before and nothing on there works. Also the 1995 and 1989 have different locks etc

Has anyone got a picture of jump points in the engine bay?

Not sure about the XJS but most cars you can use the the terminal with the large cable on the alternator as it normally goes straight to the battery.

Should be enough to open the boot anyway

Can you charge it up using a battery conditioner via the cigar lighter,

Live on starter solenoid or alternator.
