Right, I went a little mad today on Dealer Auction, and snapped myself a 2005 4.2 V8 LWB in Silver, with Cream Interior. Done 86k, I snapped it for just shy of £3200. Full History, and apparently drives well, no lights on etc.

What can I expect to find wrong, what am I letting myself in for, anything I need to know?

Knackered gearbox or/and suspension would be my first guess, you got balls buying one of them from an auction, sounds cheap too. Gearbox oil in the ZF6 box should be changed at 70k miles, can cause problems if not or incorrect oil is used.

At that mileage.....I doubt there's much wrong with it.

Gearbox oil, def get changed, also possibly the gearbox ECU re-flashed.....but drive it at 50 mph, see if it's steady or the revs are flictuating.

You may find some body corrosion, cosmetic rather than structural....bout kid, bottom of doors.

Any strange or illogical electrical faults...check the earth points behind the headlight.

Check the coolant expansion tank (prone to cracking) but cheap to replace.

Look for "Air Suspension" fault, coo on fault but cheap fix via replacing the piston seal in the compressor.

Suspension items seem to last a while, and thank you to the aftermarket bushes are relatively cheap to do.

I've had a similar car for 7 years, from 40k to now 140k, no major traumas.
