OK tongue in cheek title but I have planned to buy an F-Type coupe in 2 years but set my self a target of around £30k. I know that there are lot dependancies such as condition, mileage, market etc but I am being realistic that this would be possible in 2 years?

What do people think?

Cheers,

James.

Early convertibles are down to £40k now, so £30k in 2 years time is not unrealistic for one of those. Cheapest coupes are still £45k so that might be more of a stretch.

Get saving!

Interestingly, I set my sights on an F-type 2 years ago, but was realistic in setting the budget at £40 K. That will now buy a mileage, basic spec car, but I ended up pushing my budget a bit higher and going for a very low mileage, high spec v8 convertible which have now had for 2 weeks and I'm absolutely loving.

I guess at some point hire mileage, basic cars will get down to £30 K, if and when they do they certainly will be value for money. They have a sharp drop over the last couple of years, but as they get older the drop shallows off. I think 2 years from now might well be a realistic point to aim for.

Yes, either later this year or early next year if you after a 3.0 V6.

Sounds a bit optimistic to me, unless you are willing to go for basic spec and high miles and buy privately.

Wait until October when it's raining and people are facing at least 6 months depreciation, insurance and tax costs before they can properly enjoy their toy again, and many will move them on causing a price dip compared to the present summer prices.

Sounds like a good buy. Was it good condition? What have you bought instead?

It was a very good buy, totally mint car. The owner needed some cash for his business and I happened to be in the right place. It was a good spec car but no cruise and I've now gone for an 'S' with cruise etc

Despite the prices not seeming to be falling I have hired myself a V6 S Coupe in sapphire blue for the day in September!

Not at all. It is a company called miles and miles based in Kensington. They have the S Coupe, S cabriolet and the R. Was tempted by the R but in reality would never buy one and that was limited to 100 miles a day where as the S is unlimited. I paid £180 + £20 to reduce the excess. Normal day rate is £300 but some days are 40% off hence the great rate.

I was really impressed by the company although I will have to pick up in Kensington to get that rate! Both Sarah and James at the company were really great.

I am comparing a used v new F Type coupe at the moment. Over 2 years a new one will cost just over £20k on APP after discount and with the options I want compared to just over £26k for a used one.

Interestingly the GFV for the used car is £19,846 after 2 years. What I find odd is that Jaguar dealers are clearly propping the price of used cars up but the fact that it is now cheaper to own a new one than a used one is crazy.

Feels to me like a drop is coming.

Go to a dealer and test drive one. I had my heart set on a V6S as an everyday driver. The ride is way too hard, and the exhaust got annoying in 2 minutes. So disappointed..

To be honest none of the dealers responded. I did say it would 1 to 2 years away but I am serious. My dad has had 11 Jags since 2002 and the dealer still didn't respond to me...

They will ignore you. Until you show up to buy.

That a relative has owned several will not change this. They ignore existing customers too.

Best of luck. smile

They're not all the same, so stop tarring them with the same brush.
