Hi

This is an ongoing issue for me that remains unsolved, and is driving me mad!

The electric handbrake fails without warning.

I have already changed the battery, replaced the short negative lead from battery to chassis (battery clamp was split, thought I had found the problem), had the supply connections to starter motor removed, cleaned and replaced.

When does it happen, well, it never happens on a cold engine, every morning, or after leaving the car unused for several days, it's guaranteed not to cause a problem.

If I was to drive a hundred miles, pull into a service station, go back to car 10 min later, it's almost guaranteed to fail. When it fails, when you start the car, it does sound like the engine doesn't turn over as quick as it does on a cold start. If I then reset the handbrake (remove power from module etc), restart the car, the engine spins over and starts at what I would call 'normal speed'.

Do I have an hot engine issue that is making the engine difficult to turn over and then pull the battery level down?

Could the starter motor be sticking on a hot engine, and pulling the battery level down?

What can cause this 'slow tun over', I am ruling out the battery as its good for cold starts and when hot starting after a handbrake reset.

I am hoping someone out there has had similar problems and can point me in the right direction.

thanks in advance!

Big Al.

The electronic handbrake motor is known to corrode and fail.

I've just had mine replaced on a 2007 S Type.

The handbrake motor had not noisy and then started regularly triggering the dashboard fault.

Now all good. Work done by H A Fox.
