XF 3.0D - to S or not to S?

Go for the later non S with the 8-speed box as already mentioned. Better looks both inside & out. Also the Portfolio model has oodles of extras.
Issues - as with all Diesels from any maker will be the miles done on a daily basis. Too low, and you're going to get DPF problems. Other than that, not a lot to worry about. They suffer a driver's door rattle, but that manifests itself early on, so should be fixed by now. 20" alloys do buckle easily due to our roads, so watch vibrations at motorway speeds.
My 14-plate S will be on the market just as soon as I find an XFR in the right colour scheme.
