Jag X-Type gets mini-make-over

Limited edition adds new body-kit and wheels

Jaguar has announced a new Limited Edition X-Type, available in both saloon and estate variants. It features additional features such as the Jaguar Sports Collection accessory body styling package.

Based on the new Euro IV compliant X-Type 2.0 Diesel S and 2.5 petrol S that already offer over £2,000 worth of equipment, Jaguar said the XS "offers strong sporting style combined with excellent performance and value for money."

You get:

  • Sports Collection body styling including front spoiler, lower black mesh grille, sill appliqués, boot lid spoiler, rear valance and exhaust tail pipe trims.
  • 18" Aruba alloy wheels
  • A convenience pack with metallic paint, power-fold mirrors, rear park assist and carpet mats.

The estate offers elements of the Sports Collection, including upper and lower black mesh grill chrome tailpipe finishers and unique Proteus 18" alloys together with the convenience pack and silver roof rails.

The Sports Collection accessory body styling package, now available on all X-Type saloon models, features lower side sills and rear valance to give a more squat, purposeful stance. The X-Type XS also gets a more pronounced rear boot spoiler as well as new exhaust tailpipe finishers. The car also carries a specially made XS badge on the right hand side of the boot plinth, below the engine badge.

Limited options are available at normal prices including automatic transmission (2.5 petrol only) and eight-way, two-way electrically adjustable seats with perforated leather facings plus cruise control.

Jaguar's UK boss Phil Popham said, "This XS version has been designed to further enhance the appearance of the X-Type and highlight the benefits and appearance of our body-styling kits. These stylish and dynamic features increase the stunning sporty image of the Jaguar X-Type XS, without the price being prohibitive; it really is a car that looks and feels every bit as good as the way it performs."

There are 1,000 XS limited edition cars in a choice of four different colour combinations; Midnight, Platinum, Zircon and Quartz. The advertised prices start at £22,995 OTR.

Depending on model, the full Sports Collection package can be ordered for all existing X-Type diesel and petrol saloons – or retro-fitted – for around £1,495 excluding wheels.

To those who thinks that the X-type Estate and Diesel are against Jaguar disagrees then with Mr Jaguar himself Sir William Lyons.

Jaguar are now offering factory fitted accessories that a lot of the aftermarket Jaguar spares suppliers have been selling for a long time.
As for a diesel Jaguar and a Jaguar estate car, why the hell not, when Audi, BMW, M-Benz have been selling these for donkeys years. Jaguar are now taking sales away from the Germans and other manufacturers with their increased product range. Choice is not a bad thing in such a competitive market.

Offering different options is the Key to sucess

Finally Jaguar seem to be realising this.

What the XS doesn't include which makes the Sport different from the Classic,SE, and Soverign is Sports suspension! The XS is a fake Sport, all show no go in the handling department. Before I bought my X type I drove both SE and Sport and the handling is totally different, the Sport feels glued to the road on the twisty stuff, the SE wallows and unfortunately the XS bodykit won't hide that fact when out on the road.

The X-Type needs a 150bhp+ diesel that has low emissions if they want to grab the user-chooser company car option, while the petrol is a nicer place to be IMO, diesels have strong residuals and are more sought after 2nd hand.

Its all very well trying to keep traditions, but you can't keep traditions if you are out of business. Jaguar has to adapt or die, hatchbacks seem to still be a no-no in the upper echelons of the car market, whereas estates can and do good business.

I think that as sales of the X type in general havent exactly set the world on fire, then Jag have shelved plans for an R version, which is definitely a shame as they could do with a "halo" car to lift the whole range.
I agree about them needing a more powerful diesel, I think they're going to put the new mondeo diesel in it, the 155bhp one. However, what they need is the 2.7 one out of the S-type, however, apparently it wont fit

I'd say yes.

I've driven one on countless occaisions through work and it never fails to impress (my daily drive is a 328i). I'd echo DOMINICF's comments RE the sports suspension tho - your Mum will appreciate it when she's hooning on those 'B' roads!!

Yes I heard that it is a shame-what the X type needs above all else is a more powerful diesel engine for the company carmarket.

love the x-type - mine's a 2.5 SE auto, and has been solid since new. Formerly lived in central london, so comfort and loosing the clutch was a great thing to do.
