1998 XJR running cool ?
Discussion
Can anyone offer advice on this one please ?
My 98 XJR runs cool according to the temperature gauge.
By this I mean I can be on the motorway and the needle may get to the first indication on the gauge, about one eighth, around town it may register a quarter but thats it.
Is it anything to be concerned about ?
Thanks

You probably aren't so worried about this at the moment, but does the heater warm up or does that run cold too?
I'd have the thought that the problem was the thermostat. The one of my X300 went a few years back and that would then always show the engine temp as cold, the heater would just blow cold air. I've got an electric pre-heater in mine and I could warm the engine up to temperature on that before setting off and within quarter of a mile it would be back to cold again.
Don't know the arrangement on the X308 but changing the thermostat on the X300 was about very quick and easy.

The temperature gauge on these is a guide (normally just stay in the middle unless extreme temp) there is a chap in the US who makes an adapter to make it read correctly. If you have a OBD reader for Torque etc you can get the exact reading - worth checking before you start changing parts of the engine that may not be at fault.
Still not yet resolved this, the lower cooling fan kerps kicking in from start up for about 15 to 20 seconds.
This is from a cold start. Does this still indicate a duff thermostat ?
Secondly, shouldn't both fans run at the same time ? The upper one does not start up when the lower one does....
