Dutchy in London insurance question
Discussion
Hi there,
My name is Niels, I am Dutch, living and working in the UK, London.
I am looking at buying an X308 XJR Jag, but have been slightly frightened by the insurance quotes I got on gocompare:
Cheapest prices between £1065 - £1500
Cover type: Comprehensive
(instead of Comprehensive I also tried Third Party Fire & Theft and Third Party Only - which weirdly makes the quotes go up instead of down...)
No claims bonus: 10 years
Voluntary excess: £500
The would be kept on street, use is business and private combined - roughly 50/50. Miles about 15K a year I estimate.
So, my questions are:
1) In the Netherlands I pay a couple of 100 Euros for my insurance. Am I really looking at spending £1065 - £1500 for insurance on a X308 XJR?
2) Another issue is that I still have a car in the Netherlands, on Dutch plates, and my insurer tells me they cannot "let go/share" my claim free years with a UK insurer as long as I keep that car - which I will. How do I prove I have 10 no claims years?
Thanks for helping out!

You need to find an insurer who will give you a decent introductory bonus based on your NCB in Holland.
You'll need to speak to them rather than use websites.
Maybe try someone like this:

Ik ben 33 en heb een S-type R (4.2 supercharged V8) en betaal rond de £ 400, per jaar verzekering.1) In the Netherlands I pay a couple of 100 Euros for my insurance.
Sorry for the jibber jabber folks....
