Hi Guys, I have been slowly falling in love with the styling of the XF.

I have now convinced SWMBO that my man maths mean I can afford one without being any worse off ( Overtime rate Increase)

I have found a gorgeous 10 plate 3.0 TD luxury with Full dealer history and 82K miles.
and a couple of options apparently ( Adaptive cruise, Jaguar voice ?), I'm going to go take it for a drive and have a closer look Saturday.

Is there anything I should be looking out for other than the normal ?

Thanks in Advance.

Both of mine have been fantastic cars. Early ones had a few problems, but I'm sure a 10 plate will be fine. All my German cars had many a trip back to the dealer for rattles, but not the XFs. Been driving them for 3.5 years, and still get excited whenever I get into the current one each morning.

If you're serious about getting one, then pop over to www.jaginfo.org for some more specialist advice than you'll get on here. There's also a great sunday club that'll help sort any service issues, and also good banter.

There's a couple of TVRs on the other forum too, so you'll fit in well!

ETA: make sure that model is the one you want. There's two variants in thr 3.0D. A 240 and a 275, the latter being the XFS. Same mpg, but the S is more lively. There's also 3 levels of trim, Luxury; Premium Luxury; and Portfolio. An increasing number of toys as standard as the trim level increases.

I've had my 3.0l for just over a year now and absolutely love it. Definitely a case of Space, Grace, and Pace.

I had an XFS portfolio for 7 months and had nothing but grief to be honest. 40,000 miles on the clock and I had problems with brakes binding leading to two warped discs, performance limit mode every week (with/during and after Jag inspection of fault...with no solution). Water in fuel warning every week. battery died, then auto box started to stick in 1st or 2nd. Window mechanism jammed then snapped the cable so the drivers window fell in the door....then the rear suspension bushes went.... so I called it quits and got rid of it.
Lovely car when it worked. Got a 3 series now and I love it.

I'm well aware I may have got a friday afternoon car .... but my boss had the same marque and had a few of the same problems.

All my BMWs spent a lot more time in the garage for a lot more serious problems than I've ever had with the Jags.

BMWs
Chassis failure - the well known e46 coupé one - 328ci
Diff failure - 328ci
Clutch failure - 328ci
Recall on the engine main bearings - M3
New exhaust on a two day old 330ci after the knobs who built it screwed it up somehow, and the even knobier dealer didn't spot it on the PDI - 330ci
Sunroof motor - 328ci
Multiple failed speakers - 328ci, 330ci, M3
Knackered heater controls rattling - M3
Parcel shelf rattling - M3
Door cards rattling - 330ci, M3
Crappy DSC that wouldn't allow new rear tyres with half worn front tyres, dealer couldn't give a damn - 330ci
Gear change paddles gave up the ghost - 330ci
Kept stalling at junctions while warming up - 328ci
Parking sensors - 330ci

328ci bought 2 years old with 20k miles
330ci bought new
M3 bought 1 year old with 6k miles

Then I removed my rose tinted glasses. Audis were better, but nowhere near as good as the Jags.

Whereas the Jags.
Parking sensor
Knackered battery
Parking camera

All on the current one. The first one nothing in 32k miles other than servicing. Both bought new.

Guess which brand I won't buying again - also because they're now just fugly.
