I have just purchased my first ever jag and i have a couple of questions. I obviously bought the car used so therefore none of the manuals were present.What is the normal operating temperature for the 4.0 the gague is allwas right in the middle and never goes any higher is that where i want it? What is this acs off button for and furthermore what does acs do? What brand of oil do you recomend and what weight of oil does the 4.0 V8 use? And last where is the transmission dipstick located? I bought the car off ebay. It is a clean one owner car never had any major repair work done. The motor starts up and runs ever so beautifully and the transmission is smooth as silk.

I don't have the same car, but a similar vintage XK8 which I think has the same engine. The engine temparature normally stays slightly above the middle in mine (once warmed up obviously). If the car is an automatic (and uses the same box as the XK8) then the unit is sealed for "life" and should not need topping up. No doubt this is a bit hopeful!

I'am surprised that you have not had any replies to your 'acs' query! I think you mean 'Asc' Automatic Stability Control. In effect the ASC is an electronicaly controled diff lock (I think), which detects wheel spin on either or both of the rear wheels and then shuts down the throttle to prevent loss of control. Try pulling off on a slippery surface (e.g. grass) with the asc on and then with asc off, you should notice a considerable difference. There may be other functions that the ACS controles, that I don't know of, so hopefully someone else can enlighten us on the subject. Please note ASC is NOT the same as traction control, be carefull.
