If it is the earlier 4.0 version with the Mercedes box then it can be done too. Jaguar always insisted it was sealed for life, but eventually MB issued a service note suggesting the fluid and filters should be changed at 100K miles. Someone posted the service bulletin here once years ago. LadyB8 had the box in her Merc but the local main dealer always insisted it was sealed for life and wouldn't look up the bulletin for us. A local Jaguar specialist changed the fluids and filters.

4.0 XK8 has the ZF five speed box , only the 4.0 XKR had the Mercedes box. No matter which car you have the gearboxes are not sealed for life (unless you want it to be a short one) and no-one should now be telling you that they are! Get it serviced, DIY is possible with any of these boxes or go to a gearbox specialist who do this day in day out and not just on Jaguars.

Life for the manufacture == 100,000 miles.

After which they lose all interest :-(

So they have no interest in your gearbox lasting longer than they will sell you a warrantee.

Search back months or maybe even years on this forum and you should find numerous posts of a detailed DIY procedure I wrote for changing the oil and filter on the ZF 5 speed gearbox.
