XK8 "Poor Vehicle Performance" fault

Afternoon all, whilst driving my girlfriend's 97 XK8 on the motorway an engine fault appeared on the screen with an amber light. It then flashed Poor Vehicle Performance with no perceptible change in the power or engine note at all. At the time I noticed it was running rather cool and shortly afterwards whilst sitting in traffic the engine warmed up and the fault seemed to clear itself. Is this a known about thing (we couldn't find anything in the owner's guide about it) that was just a transient problem due to a cool engine temp or is it indicative of a bigger fault?
