E46 M3 to X150 XKR - Good idea?
Discussion
I have been running an E46 M3 for several years now, and I fancy a change but I'm struggling to think what I should get next.
I have been seriously considering the move to an X150 XKR, as they look fantastic, but I thought I would ask the Jaguar owners on here whether this is likely to be a good progression. How do the two cars compare? The M3 is nicely specced and feels a nice place to sit. How are the XKR's for the quality and feel of the interior?
Have any of the XKR owners on here previously owned an E46 M3, and what do you think of the XKR in comparison? I don't drive the M3 particularly hard, and find it can be a bit harsh at times, so I think I might like something fast but a bit more refined.
Would the 4.2 XKR be worth considering, or would it feel slow compared to the M3?
Any thought and opinions would be much appreciated.
Regards,
Steve

I had an M3 back in 2007 which I liked very much...mine was SMG.
I suppose the M3 is more of a B road blaster especially with the quick gearbox(well it was at the time) but I would say the Jag feels more special.
I actually swapped my M for a Maserati 3200 which I suppose is sort of XKR ish. The Maser then and Jag now are just more special to get out at the weekend.
Having said that I quite fancy a new M3!
Oh and the jag ain't slow.

where torquedirty was looking at buying either an XKR or an M3.
I'm sure there was another thread recently where some people who'd had both contributed.

The E46 M3 really wasn't that quick, so you won't find a 4.2S/C XKR slow feeling at all. Accelerative performance of the M3 was more on-par with the naturally aspirated X150 XK.
Comfort wise, they're great and they're a much nicer place to sit than a 90s era 3-series too. The BMWs were fairly well screwed together inside and felt solid. The X150 is also nicely built and solid, but feels much more up-market than the fairly plastic-dominated BMW. It's a great chassis too
I don't think you'll be disappointed
