Hi,

My tyres were due for replacement, and due to a slight bit of disatisfaction with the OEM Dunlop SP Sport Maxx, I decided to look at different makes.

After much reading, I settled on Michelins - either the Pilot Super Sport or the Pilot Sport 3. They're both a simialr price.

The PSS seems to get better reviews than the PS3, so I would have prefered them (I think!), problem was, whilst the PSS was available for my read tyre size (275/40/19), they not made in the front size (245/45/19), so I was forced down the PS3 route.

Ordered from a national chain of tyre fitters, and went to have them fitted this morning. I thought things a little odd, when they told me they couldn't fit the fronts, as they had ordered the wrong size, and that they would do the rears today, and could I go back on Monday to have the fronts fitted....no problems, I thought, we all make mistakes, and they offered to do a 4-wheel alignment for my trouble.

However, I have just noticed that they have fitted Pilot Super Sports to the rear, and I assume that they will be fitting PS3s to the front.

Is this a problem? I like to find a balance between wear and performance. Do I need to have PS3s all round, would there be a benefit, and should I insist that the fitter changes the rear to what I actually ordered, or would I be making a fuss over nothing?

Being a rear wheel drive car, the rears always wear faster than the fronts, so if the PSSs wear better, it might actually be a good thing.

Thoughts?

Can you not just buy a suitable size which have a similar rolling resistance on the front?
PSS is a more sporty tyre, the PS3 more of a touring tyre.

I can't see it being an issue having 1 type on the fronts and another on the rear. Let's face it they're different sizes.
It's side to side you don't want different tyres.

I called Michelin in the end - they said they don't reccomend the mix, as it may affect the stability dynamics of the vehicle, so i asked the fitter to exchange them, which they have agreed to do.
