OK, stupid question, but my XKR complained "Smart key battery low" when I drove her this morning.
Is it just a question of putting new batteries in or am I going to need to reprogram the alarm system?
Various cars with remotes we've had over the years have needed the damn batteries changed by the dealer as everything then needs setting up on their computer again afterwards (is this a job creation scheme?)
For once the manual doesn't tell me that "this should only be attempted by a qualified Jaguar service technician" which seems to be what the manual says about most things.

Just changed mine myself. No issues but I don't hang around getting the new battery in.

Just change them quickly and you'll be fine. IIRC there's a backup battery that keeps the 'fill' while the main one's out, but it only lasts a few minutes.

A while ago I had a problem with one of my two keys for my S-Type so I took it to the nearest JMD asking them to reprogram it, expecting a significant bill. I was shown how to do it. Start with the correctly operating key, use it several times and then at the same time start using the non working key, and quite quickly the two keys "talk" to each other and they both are programmed in sync: job done, no cost. Maybe this will/won't work with the keys for an XKR.

Depends which variant you have.

The X150 is fitted with a "docking station" and the instructions are in the owners manual.

With the X100, if you are prepared and do a swift change, there should be no problem.

Thanks everyone
I changed the battery at lunch time. No problems, it just worked OK.
Mine's an X150, just dismantled the key, popped the batter out, popped the new one in and then persuaded the key to go back together again and it all worked.
Cheers
