"Take away the Jaguar’s animal roar and you’re left with a Mercedes. (At best.) A Jag that doesn’t deliver pure, unadulterated driving pleasure is about as alluring as a Hummer that can’t go off-road.
And that’s why Jaguar is in such deep shit. They keep putting grace over pace and getting their ass kicked all over the place. Sure, I might be wrong. Despite its unmistakable Astonness, the ALC might turn out to be a proper Jag. It might have delicious steering feel, fantastic handling poise, huge horsepower, monumental torque and a world-beating interior. If so, the cat will have lost one of its lives, but survived. If not, it’s time for a little corporate euthenasia."

Well, we weren't that enthusiastic 'bout it either . . .

The ALC was always going to be a replacement for the XK. With that being the goal, the concept hits the spot. May be I am blind, but if the author cannot spot the differences between the concept and any new Aston, maybe he should be writing about something else. There are, indeed, shedloads of cars that share similar sillohettes.

I do agree though, that if the F-Type had gone ahead as a £40k roadster & coupe is would have flown off the forecourts. Jaguar still need this car, but it ain't gonna happen any time soon, more's the pity.

But, as far as the ALC/XK is concerned I'm sure it'll be a great sales success for the company.

Sorry, but what was the point the writer of that excerpt trying to say?! He comes to absolutely no conclusion. All he's saying is that if the car doesnt have power and doesnt handle well then its in trouble. Well obviously!!! And if the car does have those things which, excuse me but a sub 5 second 0-60 time means that it does, then it will be a success. In which case he is praising the car. Either way he is pointlesly stating the obvious.

If the AMV8 has no power and handles like a wet fish, then that too will be a failure (albeit after everyone has paid their £80k to find out!).

What a load of tosh!

He says Jag has lost its touch. Change the badge and you'll have another car, the personality isn't there anymore . . .
So what's the use of Jaguar, or this Jaguar? For the same money you can have a nice Merc / Beemer / Audi / fill in yourself . . . you need to perform in a league such as this. You must have outstanding looks and performance to match.

Well, nuff is said 'bout it in reaction to PHs Detroit Autoshow article . . .

Show me a 5-second car for £60k from any of those manufacturers and I will accept the comment.

As far as I am concerned, Jaguar is all about grace! And the odd car with a bit of pace thrown in (aka XKR). They're not meant to be an extreme power car. Just an everyday use luxurius car which can wup some ass if needs be.
