XJ 358 Electrical Issues
Discussion
I have a Daimler xj358 super 8 - Great car BUT have had an electrical problem in that regularly the dash shows a stream of faults, steering goes heavy and climate goes down as does speedo and water temp goes limp but red light comes on.
Have had new battery, all earthing points properly replaced.
Engine runs fine but when I stop and this issue crops up the engine will not start at all - message that remains is handbrake fault. After a few tries it clears but is proving a real pain. Incidentally the engine light has remained on for weeks!
I dare not go far in car at present in fear that this fault crops up on motorway!
Any input would be much appreciated.

You need to get the OBD read, preferably by someone with a Jag-specific reader. Might give some clues.
I've had a few odd electrical problems with my X350 SV8. The worst one, which caused Xmas-tree lights and limp-home etc etc, was caused by a faulty rear wheel motion sensor. I discovered this by looking at the OBD.
If the engine light is on permanently there is a real problem.

Finally after a year of hassle It seems that David Marks has worked his magic on my car.
Having suffered months of lightshows on the dash and the car refusing to start together with engine warning lights I was ready push the car unceremoniously into the river Thames.
However with Mr Marks at the helm he has figured out the problem after having to strip the car down to its frame removing the front of the car, the whole interior seating and dash eventually to track the issue down to a loose wire around the area of the J gate!
He will keep the car for a further week to test and I will ask him to give the car a Teraclean treatment which I am hopeful will clear the engine warning light once and for all.
Cannot praise David Marks enough for his depth of knowledge and determination. Strongly recommended even though it involved a trip up to Nottingham to get to him.
Hopefully now I can get on and enjoy the car finally.

Only just seen this, I was going to say its most likely a faulty canbus connection. Had it on my old XJ8 , wire came slightly loose and bingo all the lights come on, power steering into safe mode. Then everything clears but left with the engine light on.
My understanding is that the most common connection to come loose is the one behind the glovebox, but the fix usually seems to involve going over the entire canbus network a connector at a time and cleaning/remaking them.
Seems that the moron who design the computer and comms system in the jag didnt allow for connection faults or failures and the computer assumes 'end of the world' mode anytime it loses connectivity with the other modules even for a fraction of a second.
