Just had a call from the missus, the passenger side wing mirror has been smashed off the XJR whilst it was parked up.

Sounds like the whole thing will need replacing - A*SE!

So, does anybody have (or know of) a spare British Racing Green XJR wingmirror?

Also, my car doesn't currently have electrically folding mirrors. This could be a good opportunity to change that... If so, presumably the new mirrors just plug in a spare plug behind the mount? WHat about the button to control them?

Any help / thoughts will be much appreciated.

Cheers,

Iain

Ouch dammed bad luck Iain - guess that happened after R club last night ? I would call Jagman at RGC on Monday he may be able to help source XJ bits.

John, thanks for the message.

Have now seen the damage. Mirror casing has all fitted back together OK although with some pretty nasty scratches. Glass is smashed - should be able to get hold of that easily enough.

Main problem is the glass adjustment mechanism. The teeth have been shredded so the glass just flaps from side to side. I'd be surprised if I can get hold of the little nylon rack required, so will probably have to replace the whole mechanism

Just have to find out what's required to convert to power folding and decide whetehr it's worth it. Would help to avoid this in future and help with driving through the silly 7ft width restrictions the council like to put around here.

Laurie, thanks for the suggestion. I'll call him on Monday to discuss teh viability of converting to power folding mirrors.

Cheers,

Iain

PS: At least it's not as bad as I feared - time for a pint.

Sorry to hear of your bad news. If you can fit the power fold then go for it. They have very wide mirrors, but fold FLAT onto the door glass unlike most BMW/Merc and indeed the new XJ's. Best of luck

Iain,
You can get the adjustment mechanism on ebay, usually about £30
