Hi again,
My efforts to make the Basic sound system more like a Premium one continue! (2001 S-Type 3.0 SE)
I found the parcel shelf amp/woofer unit on eBay and that fits/connects fine, the only problem is that the poxy head unit doesn't support it.
So I'm still looking for a Premium head unit (beige) and a boot-mounted CD Changer (original Jaguar not aftermarket).

The irony is that I have satnav, voice, electric everything - but a radio that sounds like it came from a 1972 Marina

If anyone knows anyone who's breaking a 99-02 'S', please let me know!

Cheers all, I will solve this before I die...

I cut an pasted this from JTIS disk for 2000 s-type.
The head unit is the same and needs switching to "premium" to bring in the sub control,
There is nothing wrong with the quality of the head unit, it's the speakers that are poor quality.

The choice of two entertainment systems is available; base or premium. The radio and the aerial are common to both. Both systems may be operated remotely by use of switches located on the steering wheel. The premium system has the addition of a power amplifier, different speakers and a CD autochanger. The CD autochanger is located in the glove compartment. The amplifier is located in the luggage compartment.Refer to the Sound System Handbook for setting-up procedures and use, after diagnostic or repair operations.

That's very interesting - any idea how the magic switching is done?

I can modify the JTIS info a little, probably as my car is a 2001 model. First, there are two additional amps in the Premium set-up, the second being centrally mounted and driving central speakers. Secondly, the Changer is boot-mounted: I think my car, M06559, is one of the first to have this after the 'cubby-box' style.

If your switching theory is true, that would avoid the need to change the head unit: all I need now is the CD Changer. I'd like an MP3 changer but that appears to be technically impossible, unfortunately.

Thanks John

If it's the same as the XK's, there's supposed to be a switch on the chasasis of the head unit, when switched, it will, among other things, give sub volume adjustment after ballance fade trebble and bass.
