XF - Dunlop Sport Maxx Tyres??
Discussion
Hi
Just bought an 11 plate 3.0D XF, and the previous owner has cut corners (even though its only done 34k and serviced every year at a Jag Main Dealer) by fitting budget tyres.
Autogrip 200 to be precise, read the reviews, and even though the rears have 7mm, and fronts 4mm they need to be removed!
My S Type which the wife now drives has always had Goodyears, which is what I was going to fit to the XF, but a mate with an XKR pointed me in the direction of the Dunlop Sport Maxx tyres, £5 cheaper than the Goodyears, slightly lower noise rating, and still good on the petrol and wet ratings.
I have never been a fan of Dunlop, but that problem goes back to the 80's.
Can anyone give a thumbs up, or make any comments re the fitting of Dunlop to an XF.
Its on 18" rims if that makes any difference.
Many thanks!

I think they've been OE fit for the XF for a while.
I've had a couple of pairs on mine but I can't say they've been particularly stellar in 20" fit, just a bit ordinary in the dry and sometimes a bit slippy in the wet.
In 20" there's a very limited range available and they're all blooming expensive, I expect in 18" you'll have more choice such as the Michelin Pilot Super Sports which everyone raves a bit more about.

I have an XF 5.0 V8 (not XFR). It's on 19 inch Carelia wheels, so the smaller size than the standard 20 inch for this model.
When I bought it, it too had budget tyres...they were Antea, I think, and very new. I ran the car on these for some time and they were OK. I have changed the rears to the Dunlop Sport which is the original equipment. They are better than the Antea and I find them pretty good.
I'll be fitting Dunlops on to the front soon.

Tyres for my XF are good value on Camskill at the moment.

Pirelli and Dunlops which are J rated.

I've got dunlops all round mine which replaced Avon ZZ3s fitted by the previous owner. The dunlops are OK but I wouldn't particularly rate them any better than the Avons and they've not exactly got bags of grip in the wet, although there is a lot of torque to cope with. I think I'll be going back to continentals next as I've always found them to be excellent on other cars.
