Nikasil & brakes
Discussion
Some of you might have read a couple of my posts regarding a brake problem on my XJ8. After having spent £'s it's still there.
Had an independent check it over and they said it needed a new engine due to the Nikasil problem. Seems the loss of brake pressure on first start up is caused by the engine wear. (Only done 22,000 since 1998).
Took it to the main dealre to have a compression test done. Got a result of 18, which is good. Anything over 40 means a new engine required.
So no new engine required.
So far, three garages, lots of money and brake problem not resolved.
Looks like I'm going to have to contact Jaguar Customer Services.
What pisses me off the most is that one particular garage charged me £659 for a new master brake cylinder and said the problem was fixed.
Took it home and the problems still there. Gave it back to them and they could'nt find the problem.
Now had two other garages check it and they both found there was a problem with the brakes. So now I'm going to go back to the main dealer and stick my jag up their incompetent arses!

Well if two subsequent garages have confirmed that there is a problem, I would definately go back to the first and kick up one hell of a stink. Infact demand your money back, all of it!
How can they charge you for a job which hasn't solved the problem you took it in for?
OK, so theyll probably say that you agredd for them to carry out the work thay have, but there must be some comeback there, surely.

brake problem ? thats a bit non specific even for a forum . probably safe to suggest it is not your master cylinder but i have had new ones fail!
If you pay your money you want a result so get on to them!
nikasil sucks and does not work outsid ethe laboratory.
your compression tests make no sense as there is no scale generally the higher the better my aj6 runs 130psi per bore on average.
If you have servo asisted brakes then.....
If your nikasil bores have gone and there is no cylinder pressure. and then the crank case gets pressurised then there is little vacuum in the inlet mainfold that gives you no assistance on the brake servo. and the brakes become heavy.
if you have power brakes the check the hydraulic brake pump (not usually fitted to 3.2's)
blah blah sorry if this is sucking eggs
