XKR Second hand values
Discussion
I'm seriously considering buying an XKR in the near future (test drove on Sunday and am hooked!!) but I'm a little concerned about the possibility of the value nose-diving with the release of the XK replacement.
Does anyone know when the replacement is due (don't want to wait too long)? I'm looking at 2001MY cars, which presumably won't be as badly effected as a nearly new? I'm now suffering that whole 'done test drive / must have car now' syndrome!!!
Any opinions much appreciated.

Unfortunately, Jags tend to plummet in value regardless of whether a new one is due out or not. The XKR probably has the least depreciation of any current Jag.
My advice would be to go for it if you like them, but either get rid in 6 months or keep it for several years to make it worthwhile.
Very nice car though

Thanks for the advice!! Looks like I needn't delay. I'm hoping it will be a relatively long-term investment (OK, bad choice of words - toy is perhaps more appropriate).
I have to say (and it's no surprise to those posting on here) that I was smitten with the XKR on the test drive, even before I pulled away .... and then it just got better. Now I just need to find the right one.

Jags lose money, full stop.
I bought mine as a long termer, a classic to keep and supe up!
If you want to lose less, get an exclusive, 'Silverstone' 'XK100' 'XK400' make it a convertible and get it with 20 inch wheels and brembo brakes as a minimum. And get a decent colour, reds are harder to sell.
Happy shopping, its the best part.
You're not selling your RR are you? How could you! I got a Rangie and Jag too, great combo!

Sorry triple7, I'm afraid the RR is going, to make way for the XKR!! If I could have both I would, although my heart's not quite in it anymore after 50% of 2004 was spent at Land Rover. Although it's been fine since July, I still get nervous every time the suspension level is due to go up or down. BTW, I'm currently experiencing (at least I think that's what it is) the issue you had with the battery being drained by a nearby transmitter. Fingers crossed that I might have solved that one though.
Lovely car BTW!

You didn't take your RR to a main dealer did you?! Use the guys at Kingsley 4x4 01420 475 303. They are half the price of LR dealers and 4 times better!
The air suspension and a/c packing up, can keep you awake at night, along with the warrunty company!
The Jag is a great bet, the depreciation on them in the 1st 3 years is quite alot but in real terms they hold about 50% of their value over this period alng with nearly all cars, its just the big numbers to start off with make it look bad. They then taper off, when you start looking for one there really isn't very much about in the sub £35k area. Best bet is to draw up a list of the options you require then go find that car, will take you a bit of time to get 'the one'.
Do some research to know all the ins and outs.

I love my XJ8, but I will never buy a new jaguar again.
Got it new for £38,000 in March 1998. Only has 22,000 miles with Full Dealer Service. As new condition.
Part exchange value.................£6,100
So now I'm just going to keep it until it gets too old, stolen or crashed.
Only 22k in 7 years, she must be mint?
Time for you to pop down to Racing Green and turn that baby into a monster
