We've got a 2.2d XF and it seems to take a while to start up from cold. When putting my foot on the brake and holding the start button the vents open as normal but the engine doesn't start.

After about 5-10 seconds if I push the brake even harder it finally starts up. If the engine is warm is starts much quicker than this.

Has anyone else experienced this, or am I not quite doing something right?

I had the same problem with my old 2011 Portfolio when she was months old but the problem turned out to be me!

On a cold morning I would press the start button as you are and expect it to fire first time, it didn't so I pressed again and it effectively cancelled the start command, which then made the car sound like it was cutting out.

I took it to Stratstone to check over, the Service Manager came out with me and explained what I had done, basically when cold you hold your foot firmly on the brake pedal, push the button once and it may take a few seconds (which feels like an eternity), it will then fire up no problem!

Hope that makes sense!

Don't forget it is glow plug, a little indicator come up on the dash, therefore as the temperature drops the preheat cycle takes place, so just wait for a few seconds and it will fire up. If it is freezing it takes a little longer...not really a problem.

Thanks for the recommendation. When you say push the button once, I assume you mean push and hold until it fires up?

Cheers
