Hi, I have a 2002 S type 3.0l.

The fan is running when I switch off the engine, it is really loud !

This morning in traffic the temp warning light came on the digital display, I had to stop for five minutes with the engine off to let it cool.

I haven't checked the coolant levels yet, that is tonight's job.

Any tips, do I need a special coolant ? Distilled water or Unicorn piss or anything ?

Sounds like a siezed thermostat, common on the V8s that fail closed. Check also water pump, header tank top off when cold , do you see circulation of water ?
Check the water colour and replace with correct antifreeze, top up with de-ionised water, I try to get some in the £1 shops wink

Thanks - I have checked the header tank - looks ok to me.

Another forum also said thermostat

Sounds about right. I moved the car off the drive and parked in the road and the fan still ran for a few minutes....

will have to be a trip to the garage I think
