I use one on my 2010 XKR convertible.
I've not tried attaching directly to the battery. On mine there is panel on the LHS when you open the boot. There is a nice brass terminal covered by a rubber boot for the +ve connection. For the -ve connection there's a stting nut head like thing which looks like it's attached to the bodywork. I keep meaning to get a sparks to wire me in a nice connection.

I have 8 Jags including a 2007 XKR Coupe. All have CTeK fly-leads attached straight to the battery and are kept on CTeK maintainers that do a fab job.
My main dealer recommends using them.
I seem to remember that two m6 nuts will fit straight on to the existing battery bolts and the fly lead can be left sticking out the side of the boot floor panel so it is always available in the boot.
Hope that helps.
