Hit a stumbling block with my X-Type (or Mondeo rolled in glitter as some people prefer to call it).

It does have a Ford style key which is were i've hit the wall.

The key stopped working and remotely unlocking which isn't too big a problem as I just have to do the the traditional way, changed the battery and no change so the key is knackered.

Anyway after a week I got a key off eBay as reading up they are simple to programme, four turns and a ping.

Got into the car and inserted the key from another X-Type and it won't turn to position 1 so therefore can't programme the key. Thought it was a faulty key so sent it back and bought another guaranteed working key.

Tried it again tonight and as soon as I inserted the key again it won't turn to position 1.

Tried my original key and it still starts the car. It is a bit worn on the end but not too bad.

To say i'm puzzled I watched numerous X-Type videos and it seems so easy to do.

Miffed is not the word.

Programming keys is normally V Difficult.

There are people out there who can do it though, locksmiths, main dealers, some auto electricians. Prob cheaper than buying many cheap keys.

I had an Audi which was a pain in the arse but programming an X-Type key seems to be the most straight forward.

Insert key, turn to position 1 to position 2 and back four times. Hear a ping, then press any button and here another ping and the key is programmed.

Seems strange that two keys won't even turn to position one but the original key will.

Another strange thing is that one of the keys I bought before I even attempted to programme it locks the doors manually but won't open them.

Any Ford/Jaguar tibbe key will lock any Ford/Jaguar.
Have you had the new key/s cut to the right number? http://carlocksmith.co/28-read-your-ford-car-tibbe...
If so, it sounds like your new key needs wire wheeling to smooth it out a bit

Took my car to a auto electrician who told me another Jaguar X-Type key will never fit into mine or any other X-Type ignition.

I'm now even more confused as it goes against everything i've read and seen on youtube and on forums.

Seems I might have to find a way to take my old blade out and put in the new case with PCB and transponder.

Am I missing something here?
Of course it won't, it's for a different car with a different key number.
You need to get a key cut to match your original and then programme it.

Can you explain how hundreds of people on youtube and Jag forums are buying X-Type keys off eBay and programming them in.

What?

You need to swap the BLADE part of the key for yours then program the key to the car

Do you really think all Jag keys fit every car?

Not to be rude, but that's pretty stupid

The videos say buy a blank key and then get it cut to suit your old key, they are not all cut the same. If you're trying to slam a different key in to the barrel that's not cut to suit, then that's really daft
