Hi guys,

Seriously looking at a second hand XJ, seem to be getting a lot of car for the money hoping for a relatively low mileage. Ideally a 11,12 or 13 plate car. Looking at the 3.0d engine.

Is there anything I should look out for problems wise? I understand the servicing and tyre costs may be higher due to the size of the vehicle.

This is all dependant on the other half being able to drive it also.

Any thoughts appreciated here.

Thanks

Mike

Nothing to report on those other than serious waftability. Lovely, but big cars, with an engine that doesn't have any issues, unlike many of the Germans. If you can get the Portfolio, that's the highest trim level, so plenty of toys to enjoy.

make sure you buy from a jaguar dealer with proper warranty, these cars can cost a fortune when they go wrong.

get the 8 speed rather then the 6 speed box, it's a huge improvement and in either 13 or 14 they added the stop start which dropped it a tax class

try and get the portfolio

brilliant cars, i've down 30k in mine being oozed down the road, but can happily be a thug if you want to play

Thanks for the replies guys,

It does seem that the Portfolio is the car to go for, with the higher spec. I'm in no real rush to buy just needing to way up the options, was looking at an S4 Avant, but I am struggling to find one with the options I want. Since the XJ is already specced up to the nines no matter what model you go for.

Obviously they are 2 very different cars but the added economy of the Jag appeals since it still has good performance when required.

The mrs has driven an s4 but not the XJ so need to see if she is happy with it aswell!

Get as late a car as you can afford, i had an early 2010 and whilst it was fab it did have a few issues over the years. Faulty fuel tank sender which made the car cut out on the motorway. It took 6 weeks to fix and needed a new tank from Germany to fix it. The bill was over £3500, thank god for Jag warranty it was the best warranty ever. The sat nav used to throw a fit sometimes in extreme heat and stop working and a lose cable strap above the headlining was a recall fix along with the creaking glass sunroof. But i would have another tomorrow no problem, a great car all in all.

hi guys... good replies. I am also in the market for one... Ive read a lot on the 3 D XF and seen lots of issues. however, when searching for XJ customer reviews, very little...

my question is about trim level, can anyone list what the differences actually are between the levels,

Im looking at a premium luxury but cannot really understand the differences, apart from Alcantara headlining :-))))

thanks for the info

cheers...
