Hi All,

I understand this engine is fitted to S-type, XF, Range Rover as well as the french cars?!

So what is it like in the XJ. I'm particularly interested in the later cars 2007-9. Is there enough get up and go? Are they as economical as the German rivals?

Can these cars be remapped/DPF removed?

Sorry for all the questions, my dad asked me about these (last of the original shape) cars and I also now, rather fancy the idea.

Are they totally silent and waftastic?!

Early cars had dpf issues, but otherwise they're pretty robust. How many miles a year are you doing? They still command a premium over the V8s, so if you're doing sub-12-15k a year, I'd go for a V8.

Hi Fatboy,

I will probably do between 18-22k pa.

What are the XJ cars like, compared to say an S-Class, 7 series or A8 ?

Are they:

Faster?
More refined?
More toys?
Better engines?
Style/Class?
Economy?

I would love to scratch the Jaguar itch and I think the XJ would be the best car to scratch it with?

I've only driven the 2.7, and was very impressed. They have an aluminium body shell, so would probably feel a bit nimbler than a Merc/BMW, though I've never driven the big German cars. If you go for a Portfolio, then you'll have loads of toys./ Economy I don't know really. Style? No contest biggrin

Might be best to go to a more focused forum to get more info.

I want to go for the old shape/classic shape.

So it would be a Sport Premium or Sovereign right?

I wouldnt rule out a petrol - dont forget they do a 3.0 v6 as well as the 4.2

I'd an early X350 3.0i v6 and loved it.

I changed from a BMW E32 735 to a 3.5 XJ8, and I know there's a world of difference in terms of age, but the BMW has slightly sportier handling, but the Jaaag has a nicer overall ride.

Suspension 'bump' is better, but 'rebound' can be a tad unruly - go over a crest in the road and the suspension feels like it can't quite keep up.

But for 95% of the time it's a nice drive - quick, if not all-out fast. Refined without being soft. Certainly a nice place to spend time and not tiring to drive. And on a longer run I easily get over 30mpg, but most of the time it's around 25mpg.
