Travelled all the way from Durham to Kent on Sunday to pick up my much anticipated 99 jaguar xjr. I was soooooo looking forward to it.
Loads of research on this one owner fully serviced beautiful monster. Talked to the mechanics in Sheffield and Rotherham who looked after it over the past 15 years. Glowing reports. Belonged to a judge who never went over 70 mph for fear of getting a ticket!!
Bought from very well known and respected dealer in Kent. SSS jaguar.

Loved the look of it and the sound 😀😀😀😀

Started the journey about 330pm and looking forward to wafting home to Durham.
Stopped at American diner north of Newark for a bite to eat.
When I tried to start engine it objected started second attempt but rough tick over and steam out the near side exhaust!!!😂

Blown head gasket. Couldn't believe it!

Shuttle home with RAC via ferrybridge and Darlington.

Now with a jaguar wizard by the name of Tony at North East Jags in Darlington awaiting an engine from Eddie at Eurojag of Darlington.

SSS jaguar are being brilliant and overseeing the whole operation. Very thankful to Richard.

Looking at reuniting with Blessed xjr sometime next week.
Tensioners and water pump getting upgrade.

What else should I have done while engine is out of the car.

Looking forward to your replies.

Will keep you informed.

70mph all its life and then you thrash it up the M1.

But it sounds as if you're being looked after, so we'd like to see pics when you get it back!

Silverfox,
been there, done that... now it runs better than ever (2002 MY).
The original head gasket design seems to be a weak spot. It's important to change the gasket of the other bank too, while you're at it. (I'm sure you already plan to do that). If the s/c is beeing removed, it might be worth to check the condition of the water hose in the v valley. They're said to deteriorate over time and are hard to access. Regards, F. .... and enjoy the XJR!

That hose failed on mine. Very difficult to replace, we ended up relplacing a section instead of the whole piece.

This is a problem with mine at the moment. What a stupid place to put a perishible hose.
