Just had warning light on dash saying brake pads are low (not sure if front or rear, need to have a look) - I usually change these on my own, but have never had an automatic car with electronic handbrake before, so was wondering if this is still a DIY job or if I need to get a garage to do it. Anyone know?

Have a look on www.jaginfo.org and say hello if you want. There's a thread or two describing it all.

There's even a very friendly Sunday club that will help you do it too, but be warned, they'll break the bank with the biscuits they need.

For the rears, certainly a DIY prospect if you have the kit.

Software device to wind back and then reset the electronic handbrake. Piston wind back tool, to (umm) wind back the pistons.

Then fit the pads. Then use the software device to reset.

Cheers, I was reading something about pressing the brake 5 times then engaging the handbrake to set it. Does that not negate the need for the 'software device'? What is that by the way?

No need for the software device for the EPB, the updated procedure is to disconnect the battery after fitting and then use the pedal method to calibrate the EPB. More details on the D3GGY guide on jaginfo which I found invaluable when I changed my rear pads a couple of months ago.

It's advisable to replace the wear sensor at the same time to save yourself grief should you snap the cable on the old sensor.

Just remember to disengage the EPB BEFORE you lift the car and use some chocks up front to avoid any unwanted movement....
