Considering buying a 2006-09 XF 2.7 TDVi

I really fancy one of these, - I am looking to spend about 12k, obviously I'll be on the lookout for a decent example with FSH, - my main concern is reliability, and the cost of problems.
Wondering if anyone can comment on how reliable I could expect a decent example to be.
Is spending 12k on one which has done about 80 - 100k miles going to be a money pit? TIA

There are a few issues with the 2.7d engine such as DPF clogging, egr sticking & oil dilution. Most of these were fixed when Jaguar introduced the 3.0 (which is also more powerful/better mpg & cheaper to tax). So if I were you i'd save a bit more & get the 3.0
It's a significant rise in budget, but the updated model does look lovely.... I know little about them - how reliable they are... - will do some research, although I really didnt want to spend thousands more...I do hanker after something which is lovely and quiet inside, and will float along, - but also has decent power when needed... - interior on the new one also looks lovely

Depending on the miles you do, it might be worth looking at the petrol version. Less to go wrong on them. I keep looking at these and prices are coming down now, but I only do 5-6k a year, making a petrol the better choice.

I will take a look and do some sums... - most of my journeys are motorway ones (outside rush hour) however - and circa 9,000 PAI had an s-type with the 2.7 diesel engine, and aside from the the omnipresent threat of lunched turbos or spinning main bearings it was ok, and returned 43 if driven very carefully on the motorway, 24 round town, long time average of about 33mpg.
If it's not had a cambelt change it will need one soon (10 years / 105k miles, same for fuel pump belt)
If I had known when I bought it I was only going to be doing 10k pa i'd have bought a V8.

I think I have given up on the idea of a 2.7TDVi XJ. I am quite tempted by a 2010/11 3.0 XF 3.0 S. From what I have been reading, they seem pretty reliable...?
9k mixture of urban and motorway, I would consider petrol, - consdering that 85% of my driving is will be motorway, it makes sense to me (although I've probably missed something here?) to go for the diesel, plus the tax is £225, instead of £500

I don't think the fuel cost difference will be that much considering, My experiences of my s-type and my neighbours xf have put me off older jaguars (5 years or older) due to the running costs attributed to the non-engine bits that go wrong though... I'd only get another one on a 2 year lease...
I would do some research on these modern diesels, not just jags, all can be problematic. We looked at loads when my wife changed her car and a lot of dealers were asking what mileage we do a year, when we told them 6-7k, we were told about potential DPF issues when doing low miles. There is a chance of big bills if you bag a wrong un. We were looking at Landrovers where the choice of petrol are very few, we ended up getting a very rare 3.2 petrol freelander. I personally, wouldn't have a 2009 onwards diesel unless it was leased or a company was picking up the tab. The amount of kit these later diesels have is very complex. Do some research on the net for these issues, there are loads. If you really want a diesel, make sure you get a very good warranty that covers thing like DPF, EGRs etc.
Modern diesels are not as bad as all the internet horror stories suggest. People only post when things go wrong. My commute to work is only 4 miles each way yet i've never had the "dpf full" message. I do longer runs at weekend & make sure i rev past 2850rpm (which is when the 2nd turbo comes on stream) a couple of times a week to keep the actuators etc from sticking. Seems to be doing the trick for me.
