Guys - some advice please

I have just bought a 2010 XK - wonderful external condition and only done 12.5k Miles.....quick quesion - is there any benefit in having the underside 'Waxolyed' or equivalent process?. Self evidently body will not rot but what about the 'hidden bits?. Any advice gratefully recieved........

Superb Car by the way.......

Cheers - Alan P

Rust prevention is all ways a good thing if your going to hang on to it.You never see rust around the engine and gear box,s areas as they normaly covered in oil so best thing to use is old engine oil, fill all the box sections ,bottoms of the doors, rear wheel arches ,sills any where youve seen rust on other older cars which you might have owned as a example,it might be a bit messy but its better that rust cos jag,s like to rust and its free.

Isn't the entire cars structure aluminium? If so then no, that would be a waste of time and just make it messy and horrible to do any work on the underside.

The reasons these and the X350 XJ models get the visible corrosion seems to be because of contamination to the panels when they are painted and because engineers at Jaguar appear not to understand galvanic corrosion as well as they should.

I'd say yes. Waxoil will lubricate all the suspension bushes, preserve any underbody mild steel components like shock absorbers as well as the brake and fuel lines and make any dismantling in the future so much easier.

Every car I've Waxoiled has had a subtly improved ride and been so much easier to work on.

Received....teacher

If you intend the car to be a "keeper" yes, otherwise not really.

Thanks Guys - good debate - I will have a think over the next few months and may well go for a limited 'spraying' just to the underside.......I had a nasty experience with a TVR a little while ago and don't want a repeat even though I fully understand that the XK is made of Aluminium and not old tin cans like the TiV........

I have a 2007 XKR and the visiable bodywork is absolutely mint. Look underneath and it's a lot more scary! Quite a bit of brown surface rust everywhere.

I wish I'd had mine done a few years back.

I did consider it but wasn't quite sure who would do it properly for me.

Told you so,jag,s like to rust.give it a good spraying with oil and as for the body being alloy it will still corode from the salt on the roads so do that as well..............
