sorry to revisit this, I had chains and tensioners fitted to my xjr 6 years ago, and the car has done 15k miles since.
The kit was 3rd generation.

I sometimes get a rattle on start up.

What I am thinking is would it be prudent to change just the tensioners ? Or are they adjustable ?

This is not a job I will be doing myself, but would like to have a bit more knowledge before I see the mechanic.

I had the lot changed for 3rd generation kit at the time.
I will take a look at oil pressure, but would there mot be other issues if pressure was low ?

If they are 3rd generation, they don't need changing again. Never seen any cracks in the full metal tensioners.

Metal bodied tensioners don't crack but you can still loose the slipper that touches the chain and you can get issues with the guides. Might be worth removing the cam covers for a visual inspection.
