Finally bought an XKR
Discussion
I love the colour. Looks great in the sunshine, or even like today in the gloom.
Most of the XKR's i have seen were either silver or grey, which doesn't really show off the shape that well in my view.
Need to drop Tom Lenthall an email now to get him to give it the once over, and possibly suggest some upgrades.

Agreed, I saw this Claret Red beauty and just had to have it, in my second week with Snoozy now. I do suggest you drive it a few times first before considering performance upgrades though although Snoozy came with a few performance options (Speed, Aerodynamic, Brakes, Audio pack etc.).Most of the XKR's i have seen were either silver or grey, which doesn't really show off the shape that well in my view.
<sheepish_mode> I haven't yet dared to engage sport mode as it is such an animal in normal drive mode at least not until I am acclimatised to her </sheepish_mode>.
Apologies for the poor image quality, it's not my picture, and if it was I'm not sure I would let ThumbSnap get their grubby little mitts on it!

The STR never had the 5.0 litre engine, it was only initially 4.0 then 4.2. The two XKRs in this post are both 4.2s, not the later 5.0.

Well, that is what I thought, isn't it? As to the XK's in the post, your information seems a little off. I can't speak for the green one but I can absolutely guarantee that the Claret Red one is a 5.0 Supercharged V8 R - it is parked on my drive as I type this.R.
@sly_fox: apologies, I thought you were referring to the engine in the red one. I still agree though, that Emerald Green looks simply beautiful.

Emerald Fire Green is beautiful. Has to be the best XK colour along with Kyanite Blue.
Shame you don't see more nice colours. Most are dreary black, grey, silver.......

I wanted red or Kyanite but most were those dreary colours. Furthermore I wanted caramel interior. I only found 3 for sale in a whole year. One of the salesmen at my local dealer had only sold 5 new ones in red in all the years he'd been working there. So some colours/trim combinations can be very rare.Shame you don't see more nice colours. Most are dreary black, grey, silver.......

Thread update:
Four months in and loving the car. Have done a few long distance runs now over to France and it works very well on autoroutes if you know what i mean.
Only thing i will change, and it's not a Jaguar part, are the Dunlop SportMaxx tyres. They are rubbish in the wet, despite having almost 5mm of tread left.
I've not experienced aquaplaning for many years but hit some standing water at about 50mph on the M4 and the car squirmed all over the place before stability/traction control kicked in.
Michelin Pilot Supersports or Continental SP6 will be going on soon. Still haven't decided which to go for.
24-25mpg on a long run, 16-20 around town.
Not that it matters, but i have never owned a car that has got so much attention, i think the colour helps with that. Lost count of the amount of people that come up and want to chat about it.

Nice cars!
I have an XKR and a F-Type V6S.
I'd choose the XKR every time. A lovely refined relaxed cruiser that can be mental if you want it to be.
Hope you have many happy years with the XKR.
How is it better than the F-Type?I have an XKR and a F-Type V6S.

The XKR is a comfy refined GT cruiser that has a nice V8 punch under the bonnet. The FTYPE feels more like a toy.
I enjoy the FTYPE for a blast but if I'm going for a day out I always choose the XKR.
I am 50 with a dodgy back! Maybe if I were 20 years younger I'd be choosing the FTYPE!
Both great cars.

Glad to hear you're loving it. Presumably you're now well acquainted with Sport mode?! I have that gearbox & engine combination in my XJ and find it works well in Drive, with Dynamic Mode engaged. Sharpens up the throttle & gearbox response, but backs off on the Sport mode need to keep at least 3,000 revs on.Four months in and loving the car. And yes, I'll be de-speccing the Sport Maxx tyres as soon as I can. My reason for that is that they're terrible below +10 degrees C.

Thought mine were excellent, quiet and grippy. Much better than than Continental or Pirelli, and no worse over winter. Haven't tested the aquaplaning abilities though.Gassing Station | Jaguar | Top of Page | What's New | My Stuff
