Buyer beware - approved used
Discussion
Three weeks ago I bought a 2011 XF from a Jaguar main dealer as an approved used car. This weekend while washing it I noticed dark patches in the paintwork on the bonnet & dark stripes on the bumper under the headlight. I thought they were shadows at first, or reflections of clouds. But on closer examination the dark patches are in the paint. I believe the Bonnet, Bumper & both front wings have been resprayed. Tell tale signs are there, as well as the patches there are masked edges to the paint & overspray on some under bonnet components. The date stamp in the bonnet & the dated stickers on headlights all tie up with the age of the car so I don’t think panels have been replaced or the car has had a major crash. However the patches in the paint are irritating me now every time I look at the car. Do you think the dealer should put this right? Or is it acceptable on a used car despite it been Jaguar approved?
Sounds like this has been done to 'refresh' the front of the car cosmetically by removing road rash/stone chips etc, rather than accident damage.
Having said that, you would expect the paintwork to be undertaken to a high standard without visible flaws if it was done by a reputable paintshop approved by Jaguar. I'd certainly speak to the dealer about it.

If the previous owner has been driving a lot on the motorway and did not keep lots of distance, stone chips are unavoidable.
This is a lot worse on cars with a low bonnet. I challenge you to find one 2nd hand Porsche that did not have its bonnet resprayed.
I agree with the comments above, have a word with the dealer you got it from.

That doesn't look good! Looks like there has been local retouching by spray gun and then re-lacquered over the top. Fairly poor job. I'd ask for that to be re-sprayed properly... It may have been one of the SMART repairers that hasn't colour matched it very well. It must be bad to show up in a photo that significantly.
