Jag x type estate remote problem

I have a 2004 x type estate & the remote does not lock the car it only unlocks it. When you press the lock facility on the remote the horn sounds & the car does not lock so you can only lock the car with the key incedently the horn also sounds when you lock the door with the key. Any ideas or solutions out there?

The car is trying to tell you there is a door open / bonet or boot or maybe the flap in the ignition barrel is open to indicate the key is still in.

The answer is probably there somewhere
It does sound like the ignition key gate is sticking
Take the key out and see if the little flap stays open ... if it does the car thinks the keys are still in

Bit of ye olde wd40 on the key helps to release the flap

I've had this problem, if you can get it on a diagnosis machine from a friendly Jag specialist (not main dealer charge the earth). They can read the error code and it will direct them to which door,boot or barrel is the problem. In my case it was the front passenger door rarely used, the electric activator switch had gone in the door, used ones can be picked up cheaply on a well known electronic bay.
