Strange shuddering under load...any ideas? (S type diesel)
Discussion
Hi Folks.
I have a 54 plate S type Diesel auto. At and around 2000 rpm generally when accelerating up hill there is a shuddering through the car. I've had the gearbox flushed and a new filter put in just in case it was the box. It seems fine and shifts up and down with no problems.
Years ago I had a Mercedes that developed a similar thing, it turned out to be the rubber propshaft doughnut. Could this be the same?
Any help gratefully received, it's just rather odd, only uphill in different gears and when under gentle load. If I apply more 'boot' the shake goes. It's absolutely fine during other road conditions.

You might want to have a look at the Disco3 forum, lots of stories of this happening on Discovery, which uses the same box but weighs a lot more, so puts more stress on the box.
A good temp fix is to add a tube of 'Dr Tranny' to the oil. (careful when you google, make sure you put the dr in front!)

Mine did this, it is the torque converter lockup clutch. New TC was about £500 for a ZF approved remanufactured one fitted at a Jaguar Specialist I think, this was years ago. Car was never as good as the original TC.
Get rid of the car if you can, it may well be filling the box with bits of clutch.
