Hi, I have just purchased my first Jaguar after lusting over it for nearly a decade and trying every other car....until now. After searching for a long time I found my car. It's an '02 XJR unmolested throughout with factory bbs split rims. Metallic black with black leather. 109k miles with 11stamps ( x10 ) main agent. All original manuals, green master key and even the tool kit under the bonnet is still unopened from the original wrapping. It does however need a major detail throughout and a full wheel refurb. I flew from Glasgow to Essex and droves it back.......one word 'delightful'. I am carrying out a 3 stage machine polish and once it is complete I will show it off, however here are a few pics of it untouched and a picture of the bonnet which I have now polished. You can see on the left hand side what state the paint is in, however you can also see what the machine polish is doing to it. Glad to be part of the 'jaguar gang' now and after reading this forum for a long time I'm delighted to part of it.

It's hard going to be honest, 7 hours on the bonnet and the front wings. However I'm pretty confident I'll get it better than factory. I'm.a painter to trade and without checking the paint thickness I'm pretty positive its factory paint. Doing it this way I can polish out any peel and turn it out like a mirror. There's probably 40 hours of work in it in total, two stage machine polish with a heavy compound, which has been done, and then a lighter compound which is still to be done then a final sealant with a high content carnauba wax. I verge on being o.c.d I'm told.....but he who laughs last in my book.

Yeah no problem! I have seen them refurbed in silver rather than the factory oyster colour and to be fair they look good. It seems to show the polished rim off more than the oyster does. If anyone can recommend a good place to have the refurb done in or near Glasgow that would be appreciated. I have spoken to a few places but to be honest they don't exactly fill me with confidence in how they explain their process. I'm needing someone to put my mind at ease and impress me with their knowledge of refurbish splits.

Thank you! I'm glad I took my time to find the right one, the xj just does it for me. I think the xj is one of the finest looking saloon cars ever built, especially the twin round headlamp variants. I've had range rovers, Mercs, beemers you name it I've driven it, but when I sit in this car I feel at home. All good.

That's a lovely example of an XJR, looking forward to seeing the pic's after the machine polish, black is the best looking colour but hardest to maintain with dirt and swirls. Please don't go ruining that car with some silly wheels, it deserves a better owner than that.

Cheers for the compliment! Point taken regarding wheels...the more I read and see I understand that I should stick to my original plan of keeping the car the way it left the factory...totally original on the bodywork, wheels and interior. Full refurb on the BBS Milans and full new rubber all round. Will post pics when the polish is done.

Didn't mean to make you feel sick my friend! Point taken, small momentary lapse of intelligence. I have grounded myself for the weekend after making such ridiculous suggestions. Shame on me.

On reflection I'd have to agree to be totally honest.

This is 100% correct, and 100% the best way to turn the most heads and be sure it will, I've a TT Supra and a Corvette C5 and I've never had as many compliments put together as I have with my X308 XJR, add shining black into the equation and apart from a XJR 100 you have the best looking one.
