I've been thinking of a big GT for a while and being a child of the 70's and 80's I rather fancy an XJS convertible. To do it properly it has to be a V12. I've seen a few 5.3s but none of the facelifted 6.0 which I think look the best. Are there many around or do they just never come to the market.
I blame late night surfing on eBay for this latest fad. Should really just read a book, it would be cheaper in the long run.

They do come up every so often, but they are creeping up in price.

Not many 6.0l convertibles and you would expect to pay £15-£20k for a nice one they are on the up.

If you fancy a nice drive home from Greece then: http://www.carandclassic.co.uk/car/C563591#

Looks like Sapphire blue/Ivory - my fave spec for these cars.

I sold mine a couple of years ago and have regretted it not for financial reasons because they are such a great Car to own and drive. guaranteed to put a smile on your face every time you drive it.
I have a great XKR now low miles 2 owners performance is awesome but it just doesn't have that something an XJS 6.0l V12 has its probably 4 cylinders short.

The coupes look good but the convertible looks so cool as a cruiser. Is the 6.0 with the 4 speed box much better than the 5.3? Or is it just personnel preference to the earlier or later look?

The performance of the 4.0l is more than enough and the later "Ford" cars had a lot of niggles sorted out and there are more Convertibles around.
The Convertibles do look good so its down to budget and prices seem to be getting pretty hot now with even very Avg cars going for in excess of £6k.

I can't think when I last saw one of the run out batch of 6L convertible XJS's. I was offered one back when they were new, but very few were made and they were the equivalent of the Celebration models for the 4L versions with all the updated features.
I think the 6L ones get a 4 speed gearbox where as the 5.3's get the older 3 speed auto.
As for price, I image the last 6L convertibles are now priced at a premium, I've seen celebration models (4L) priced at £29K (no idea if they sold at that price) and normally seem to be north of 15K.
The later cars are much stiffer, and so nicer to drive than the pre-Ford take over convertibles. At least than was my experience when I looked at them while the XJS was still current model.
As much as I've loved my X300, I often wished I'd bought an convertible XJS at the time.

Fly out on cheapo airline with a bag of cash and make a cheeky bid. I do give this some thought in the wee quiet hours.
