Good morning all,

I know there are some threads on this topic and the general consensus is that it's a squash in the back even for little ones.(I have a daughter who is four and a son who is two)

I'm wondering though whether anybody has removed the rear seat back rests from the car which hopefully gives a few more inches to play with.

I haven't yet bought the car and a decisive factor will be whether I can fit the rascals in or not. I suppose I could just put them in the boot if all else fails..........

my wife is 5ft 4 in and she gets into the back ok. However if you are over 6ft you may find it difficult to drive but it can be done.

Right OK, thanks johnxjsc1985

I'm 6'2" so I guess the seat would be quite a way back and therefore 'squash' the little uns.

I'll simply have to go to a dealership and see if they'll let me measure up.7

Hi. Having recently tested one with my partner who is 6'0 tall, he could fit in the back but sat across both seats with legs squashed in. I would guess around 5'5 and below will be fine.

Mothercare will try and fit car seats for you. I went there at the weekend to try the Britax DuoPlus which, I read on various forums, will fit an XKR. It will, but the base of the child seat will be right up against the backrest of the seat in front, even if it's all the way forward.

Apparently the Britax VersaFix is a little smaller but I'd say that's still a bit on the neat side for the comfort or safety of the child, or any front passenger. I'm now considering a belt-in type (it's rare that I'd ever need to take our son in my car, we have a ML320 for family duties) for the odd occasion it would be handy, and just using it in the front passenger seat now he's big enough to be OK in a forward-facing seat.

I can't comment on removing the backrests I'm afraid but I'd be surprised if it freed up enough space to make it practical with even the most compact of ISOFIX seats. Good luck though and please do report back if you have any success.

I am very interested in the results because I'm going to buy an xkr convertible in the hope I can get my 3 month old twins in the back. Isofix or belted in.

One possible solution 2 cars. I have a 2003 xkr coupe for when the kids are away at uni and a 1995 xjr ( which only cost £1800 last year ) when they are home.

Genius why dont Jag buy up all the old XJR's and give them away free with the XKR's and the F types.
