Less than a week into ownership of my XJL

I pick the car up from Derby last week, and all was fine. However on the way back I had a few spurious calls from the blindspot monitor and then it decided to switch itself off. Since then I've noticed that there must be a channel or two broken in the stereo amplifier as the rear speakers are very very quiet indeed. Now I seem to have a multitude of electrical issues as well. Tyre pressure monitor, Low battery warning, spurious readouts from the temperature display going down to -56! But the worst of all was last night driving home from my parents in-laws when the car went into limp mode.
Not very satisfied, the dealer just suggested calling Jaguar assistance. Luckily it still has two years of warranty with it. Just waiting for the AA to turn up (Jaguar approved mechanic (supposedly))

I'm guessing the battery is kaput and needs to be replaced.
From what i've read on forums, when reading up on XFR errors, the weak battery is the source of the electrical gremlins. Does the battery have a manufactured date on it?
A new battery and calibration seems to resolve these issues.

Turns out there is a faulty actuator on the turbo, which is causing the engine to go in to limp mode, the electrical issues may well be a limp battery. It is now at a the dealers London branch, at my expense, as the car was drivable and therefor I could get it to the dealer myself, according to Jaguar. I was greeted by 'good luck getting anything covered under warranty in the first week of ownership #justsaying' which really pissed me off.
Waited an hour for enterprise to turn up with a hire car and drove home. Used car warranty only covers 48hr courtesy car, and also the dealer has 48 hours to look at the car, so I could be out of a car before they've even looked at it!

What's the age & history of the car?
I bought mine as an ex-showroom car, and had a few electrical gremlins to start with, mainly just not starting. Jaguar replaced the battery under warranty, and it has been pretty much fine since then. So if your car has been sitting for any length of time, that's what I would advise you to suggest to your dealer. If you have weird issues with the stereo, make sure that it shuts itself down properly when you switch the car off. Mine flattened its battery once because the ICE hung during shutdown. The dealer said it was because the battery charge was low anyway because of my low mileage, but reflashed the firmware of the car, and it hasn't happened since, whereas my usage of the car is unchanged, so you can draw your own conclusions.

I haven't had any Restricted Performance warnings from mine, but mine doesn't have a turbo, so those systems are probably different.

Thanks all. The car is 4 years old, 60k purchased from a dealer. I'm sure the electrical system issues are a consequence of the duff battery. The biggest issue I'm having is getting someone at the service centre to own the problems. They've agreed and fixed the turbo but they didn't know anything about the electrical issues, although I've only told about 2 dozen people there.
It's all a bit frustrating but I hope to get the car home tomorrow afternoon.

So, where does this leave me? The dealer in Hainault is now trying to figure out exactly who will pay, I think it should be the supplying dealer but who knows. Either way, its not me!

I would have thought the SOGA comes into play, which says (i think) that faults are deemed to have been present at point of sale if they happen in the first 6 months, and dealer has to prove otherwise. Car has to be of suitable standard and free from major faults, they (in theory) get a few attempts at fixing it before you can reject it back for a refund.
I'd be kicking off if they ask you to pay for the repairs, especially if it's an approved used car or from a dealer... I would think the supplying dealer will have to foot the bill...

Is this an 'approved used' jaguar from a main dealer, with a Jag 'used warranty'? And they say that no defects in first week are not covered? I'd tell 'em to swing their hook & go buy a Merc.....huge shift in Jaguars product & customer service in the past few years. Not good at all.....

Its the dealers problem to fix under SOGA. If you have an AA warranty then thats not a Jag Warranty - thats probably a good thing as the Genuine Jag warranty doesnt cover you over 60k miles.

I have a Jag approved warranty on my XJR, it covers up to 100k BUT once you hit 60k they cover only major failures - like maybe an engine exploding. Anything else is called 'wear and tear' and is excluded. I had warranty items that had previously been covered rejected at 60009 miles and they told me very clearly not to bother trying to claim anything in future as they wouldnt cover anything due to the mileage.See https://jaguar-renewal.motor-admin.com/documents/j...
They will try anything to be honest.on my last XF, the issue is had were not covered until I challenged and they were. Had a call yesterday to tell me if needed to pay for 2hrs diagnosis on our Range Rover Sport to see if the item they think is faulty actually is.. Needless to say I refused and said I'll only pay if it's a non warranty item (even then I won't and will take it independent!)
