Intermittent start problem

My car intermittently won't start. It is a daily driver.
Sometimes I turn the key and hear a clicking but the starter doesn't turn over. Sometimes it turns briefly but doesn't fire. It can take a few key turns before it finally starts. Sometimes, once the starter is turning it reluctantly and sluggishly starts to get the engine going. Other times it starts first turn of the key.
I have recently fitted a new battery. Wondering if the starter motor is on its way out. The car runs beautifully once started.
Any thoughts?
