As a very happy owner of a 2009 XFR, with the same age satnav DVD. Would it be worth updating to a later version of the DVD?
Are there many changes from say 2009 to 2012?
Is it even possible to tell?

My X-type had a 2005 Nav disc which I replaced for a 2012 version. Well worth the £9.99 mail order.

Not sure it's a genuine disc though ;-)

Is it simply that the newer disc has more road names? Or does it change any of the satnav features/functions?

I updated my 2010 XF satnav disc with a 2012 one and there were minor changes to the interface, I got mine on-line after a somebody on Jaginfo recommended the supplier but for the life of me can't remember the name of the site.

I updated my 2009 dvd to a 2015 dvd. I didn't get any particular 'upgrading' messages on the unit, it just worked straight away.

I presume it's only brought mapping data updates as opposed to any new functionality.

I'll pm you where I got it.

I upgraded mine from 2010 / 2011 to 2012 / 2013 (bought disc on e-bay for about £10)just after I bought the car 2 1/2 years ago.
The instructions said it would take about 20 minutes, so I had to fire the engine up so the car wouldn't shut the system down half way through the upgrade.
When I first loaded the disc, I got an "Updating Operating System" type message (can't remember the exact text) and within 20 minutes the system was up and running.
There were no discernable changes to the screens / interface, but the maps were certainly more up to date.
